Check the disk space first... (95% of the time issues are due to disk space!)

(Information for Debian / Ubuntu based linux)

/var/lib/mysql is on a 17GB partition
/var/log could be quite big too!

df -h

root@GabServ:~# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
rootfs 20G 1.2G 17G 7% /
/dev/root 20G 1.2G 17G 7% / <- Only 17G !!! -> Small for /var/lib/mysql
/dev/sda2 439G 167G 250G 41% /home

Delete files in /var/log
Delete files in /tmp (or just reboot...)

Shutdown mysql, move /var/lib/mysql to /home/mysql.
ln -s /home/mysql to /var/lib/mysql
(Or change the config)
You can do the same with /var/log

Then try to reboot the instance.

Hi, we have installed the latest version of MySQL, and does not create mysql.sock, we tried again many times. We need the database and it is urgent you could check and tell us what could be the decisive mistake?
