Another possibility : SSH access is often protected by a utility called 'fail2ban'.
Typing 3 times the wrog password : > your home-IP is blocked. You have the impression that "SSH" doesn't work anymore - or, actually, it doesn't work anymore "just for you". Solution : use another 'home-IP'
